Decide. Commit. Succeed.
We all fear discomfort, we have fear of the unfamiliar and the unknown. Itʼs scary to leave our comfort zone, and feel insecure and self-conscious. We fear the space called transition...change. But that space, that place of limbo is essential for growth and evolution.
When we step out of our comfort zone and try something that we are afraid to do, there is an inevitable period of discomfort because we are stepping into the unfamiliar. That period of time is short especially in retrospect. The period of time that it takes for something new to become familiar and routine. When that happens and things shift and then settle as they inevitably do, your comfort zone doesnʼt settle back down to the previous level, it settles at a higher level.
There is a way to make that period of unfamiliarity and discomfort shorter. By being in your body, mindfully in the moment. By focusing on the muscles that you want to use, that you need to engage for balance and strength.
Your Core muscles are the orchestrators of everything physical in your body. Thatʼs why kickboxing is such an amazing core workout. Yes youʼre using the muscles in your shoulders, chest and arms when you punch, but if you do not engage the core itʼs like flailing, there is no strength, power or speed behind your punches and you will be off balance. All balance and strength comes from your core. When you kick you are on one leg, the glutes, hamstrings, and quadriceps are engaged but itʼs your core that is keeping you in balance.
I believe kickboxing to be an analogy for life..It doesnʼt matter whether youʼre new to it or if youʼve been training a long time. It is forever challenging and therefore your level of comfort is always growing. Kickboxing focuses on your core, your centre. Your centre is your everything, without it you do not have balance and you are without strength.
The core of your body is where all purposeful movement originates, without it there is no oneness of the parts..they are out there dangling on their own. The core of your spirit is your source..what ever label youʼre comfortable using..the universe..God..infinite intelligence, the creator, energy....without it there is no oneness of the parts, weʼre all just floating around randomly and disconnected.
Life begins at the end
of your comfort zone.
